    • Nishiki Market tasting
    • Kamo riverbank stepping stones
  3. Day 3 · Nara

    Deer in Nara

    • Crawl through the pillar hole at Todai-ji

Getting there Kintetsu Limited Express, 35 minutes; reserve seats.

  4. Day 4 · Kyoto

    Bamboo and boats

Arashiyama in the morning, with a monkey park hike for older kids and a rowing boat on the river.

    • Arashiyama bamboo grove
    • Iwatayama Monkey Park (20-minute uphill walk)
    • Rowing boats on the Katsura river

Why this works for families

One hotel for the whole stay, nothing more than 40 minutes away and a big, open-air highlight every day.

Practical notes

  • Buses are crowded; with a stroller, prefer trains and taxis for longer hops.
  • Many temples have steps and gravel — a lightweight carrier beats a stroller.
  • Children under 6 ride free on JR and most local trains; 6–11 pay half fare.
